UPDATE: Water for the World Act Nears 100 Cosponsors, Committee Vote Likely in Early September
Just before Congress left Washington for its August recess, , The Sen. Paul Simon Water for the World Act (HR 2901) added even more Republican and Democratic cosponsors, bring the total to 97 members of the House of Representatives. This includes 19 members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC), five of whom are chairs of HFAC Subcommittees, demonstrating the broad support for the bill now. Chief House sponsors Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) are working with Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) to pave the way for action on the bill in the Senate as quickly as possible once the full House approves the bill. We do not yet have dates for the HFAC vote (called a “mark-up”) or for House floor action, but our sponsors are working to get that done in September before they adjourn to go home to campaign in October.
