His experience includes serving as president of Food for the Hungry, Inc, filling national and regional operational leadership roles in Africa, launching an innovative business to accelerate business solutions to poverty, and governance leadership in one of East Africa’s leading financial institutions. He earned a M.Sc. degree in economic development from Eastern University and a B.A. degree in political science from the University of Mary Washington.

...25 years of experience in Washington and New York in legislative lobbying, coalition building, public policy, media relations, and nonprofit leadership. Prior to MWA, he was Director of Campaign Finance Reform at the public interest group Common Cause, and previously was Vice President for Government and Public Affairs at the American Symphony Orchestra League, the national association for orchestras.  Previous assignments include senior lobbying and coalition building positions at two public affairs firms in Washington DC where he worked on regulatory and legislative issues in transportation, energy, and human rights;  two national advocacy coalitions in the nonprofit sector; press secretary for two members of the U.S. House of Representatives; and professional positions in several Congressional campaigns and two Presidential campaigns. Some of them were even successful.

Jason Lopez joined MWA in September 2022 as Deputy Director. Mr. Lopez has worked in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) since 2009...

...implementing programs and working as a technical advisor in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa, in both development and emergency contexts. Previously, Mr. Lopez managed and oversaw the construction of medical facilities and served in the United States Peace Corps in Peru as a WASH volunteer. He received his master’s degree in Global Environmental Health from the George Washington University. Mr. Lopez then went on to work in Liberia with Oxfam developing innovative public-private partnerships for the operation and maintenance of public latrines and water systems. Later, working at Catholic Relief Services, Mr. Lopez led the establishment of a WASH response for refugees in Uganda and worked in Laos and Tanzania on WASH for Nutrition and Education. Most recently, Mr. Lopez worked as a technical advisor with Save the Children in WASH and infection prevention and control in Bangladesh, India, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Guatemala and WASH for Nutrition in Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Mozambique.

From 2009 -2015, Mr. Tezazu worked at the Catholic Relief Service in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he served as the Program Officer for Monitoring and Evaluation, and Water, Sanitation, and Communication. In this position, he specialized in WASH communication, project design and management, proposal development, and community managed disaster risk reduction (CMDRR).

He has worked at Ethiopian Assurance Corporation as junior auditor, and at CARE Ethiopia for nearly 11 years in different positions, such as Project Accountant, Area Finance Head, Senior Internal Auditor, Audit Officer, and Grant, Contract and Budget Specialist. He came to MWA-EP as the Grant, Contract and Budget Manager in July 2014.

Some of his experience before joining MWA was working as a water engineer and modeler at a World Bank-funded project (Tana Beles Integrated water resources development project Tana Sub-Basin Office), WASH Facilitator (Emergency COVID Response Program-World Vision Ethiopia), Healthy Village WASH Officer at Plan International Ethiopia and university lecturer. He earned an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Environmental Science and Technology at the University of Bologna (Italy), and an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Water and Coastal Management (Faculty of Marine and Environmental Science) at the University of Cadiz (Spain), University of Algarve (Portugal), and University of Bologna (Italy). He also earned an M.Sc. Degree in Water Resources Engineering (Engineering Hydrology), and B.Sc. Degree in Water Resources Management from Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia.

Styvers Kathuni joined the Millennium Water Alliance as Program Director and Country Representative for Kenya in January 2022.

In January 2024, he was promoted to Country Director for MWA Kenya and is the Chief of Party of USAID STAWI Mashinani Activity.Styvers has worked for over 15 years in design and management of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities in Africa. Prior to joining MWA, he worked at SweetSense Inc. as the Regional Director for Africa. Styvers has also worked for Caritas Embu, Save the Children and Catholic Relief Services – in Kenya and South Sudan, where he held various positions – Technical Supervisor, WASH Engineer, Project/Program Manager and Technical Advisor. He was also seconded to the Ministry of Roads and later the Ministry of Water and Irrigation in Kenya to support European Commission and IFAD funded projects.Styvers earned his Masters in Water Supply and Sanitation at Kenyatta University and BSc in Water and Environmental Engineering from Egerton University.

ERASTUS KYALO

Erastus Kyalo joined the Millennium Water Alliance as Deputy Chief of Party for USAID STAWI Mashinani Activity in February 2024.

Erastus also leads partnerships at MWA Kenya. He is a social strategist and systems thinking specialist with over 15 years of experience managing and implementing large, complex agri-based programs focused on system thinking, institutional strengthening, entrepreneurship, food security and nutrition, and market-based livelihoods development in Kenya and the Horn of Africa. Before joining MWA, Erastus served in a similar role at ACDI VOCA for the regional USAID Cross Border Community Resilience Activity (CBCR) implemented in conjunction with IGAD across 5 countries (Uganda, Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Kenya). He has previously served in different capacities including being the Technical Director in charge of Program Quality and Partnerships for ACDI VOCA’s Kenya Livestock Market Systems Activity, and as Technical Advisor for Social Determinants of Health at Land O’Lakes Inc. Other previous employers include Save the Children International, Action Contre La Faim (ACF) amongst others. Erastus holds a Masters’ Degree International Development and a Bachelors’ Degree in Agricultural Food Science and Technology.

June Samo joined MWA in April 2022 as the Water Intervention Manager and Market Systems Development Specialist. 

In October 2023, June was promoted to WASH Systems Manager and thereafter in March 2024, took up the Program Director - RAPID+ role.

Prior to joining MWA, she worked as a development consultant at EED Advisory where she engaged in various assignments for the World Bank, Oxfam, GIZ, UNICEF, the Kenya Water and Sanitation Civil Society Network, the African Development Bank (AfDB) among others. Before joining EED Advisory, June worked at Kenya Markets Trust (now Gatsby Africa) and focused on improving the performance of selected urban water utilities in Kenya through the reduction of non-revenue water and improving water service delivery in rural areas.

June holds a masters in Water Science, Policy, and Management from Oxford University (UK) and a BSc. in Soil, Water and Environmental Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Prior to joining MWA, Mr. Olela worked for Catholic Relief Services-Kenya as a Senior MEAL Officer.  He is not new to MWA , as he worked as the MEAL officer for Kenya RAPID in Isiolo County for five years. Prior to that, he worked for other organizations, including JHPIEGO, CAP YEI, and Plan International. He has expertise in development and management of M&E systems, mobile phone based data collection, data analysis using various statistical software, and has a passion for telling the story behind the programs. He holds a Bachelors in Sociology with Information Technology from Maseno University and a Masters in Project Planning and Management from Nairobi University.

experience in program/project design, management, and implementation of integrated and climate smart innovations projects in pastoral and agropastoral economies in Kenya. He has vast experience in food security, value chain development, resilience building, sustainable livelihoods, sustainable landscapes management, climate smart agriculture, market systems development, natural resource management, and policy development both in humanitarian and development contexts. Paul is the immediate Technical Advisor for Food Security and Resilience at SNV Netherlands Development Organization. Over his career, he has been engaged in providing leadership in design and implementation of sustainable and resilience livelihood.

...experience in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programming and implementation both in development and emergency contexts and has worked with various development organizations among them SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED), World Vision and Feed the Children.

John holds an MSc. in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation for Water Resources and Environmental Management from the University of Twente, ITC, the Netherlands, and a BSc. in Water Engineering from Kenyatta University, Kenya. His past experiences have largely involved establishing networks and collaborations between different stakeholders including County governments, national government departments, communities, the private sector, other development partners with an aim of triggering collective response and action to address WASH challenges in Kenya.

MARVIN OYUKE
County Coordinator
Marvin Oyuke joined the Millennium Water Alliance in February 2024 as the County Coordinator for the DRIP FUNDI program.

...With over five years of experience in the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role. Prior to joining MWA, Marvin made significant contributions to World Vision International in Kenya, where he spearheaded integrated health and WASH initiatives, enhancing community resilience and well-being. His tenure at Brooklyn Economic Consulting saw him leading technical design and consultancy for comprehensive WASH facilities, notably in educational institutions and vulnerable communities.

 

Marvin's work with Sustainable Aid in Africa (SANA) International and the Kenya Water for Health Organization (KWAHO) further underscores his commitment to improving public health engineering and water resources management. At SANA, he played a pivotal role in reducing non-revenue water, while at KWAHO, he was instrumental in implementing sustainable water supply projects.

He holds a BSc. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing a MSc. degree in Civil Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology, with a focus on water and environmental management

Thomas Ihura joined Millennium Water Alliance as County Coordinator for the DRIP FUNDI program in January 2024....

...Thomas, a civil and structural engineer, has over eleven years experience in design and implementation of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects in Kenya. Prior to joining MWA, he worked at CARE International in Kenya as a WASH Coordinator, to improve access to sustainable WASH through integration of governance and private sector, in the Kenyan ASAL.

He has also worked in other various projects across the ASAL in Kenya, with CARE International in Kenya as, WASH and Livestock infrastructure engineer, Project engineer, assistant project engineer and WASH officer. Thomas also worked as a civil engineer in the upcoming Kenya world class city, Konza Technopolis and as a road engineer in improvement of rural roads with the private sector.

Thomas holds a Bachelor of Technology in Civil and structural engineering from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and pursuing a Master of Science in Project Management in Jomo Kenyatta university of Science and Technology.

Prior to joining MWA, Ms. Maswage worked for Concern Worldwide as the Logistics and Administration Officer. Previously she was at World Vision – Kenya as the Grants Supply Chain Officer supporting implementation of WASH grants. She is an accredited member of The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, and holds a BSc. in Procurement and Contract Management from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Winnie Njoki joins Millenium Water Alliance as a Senior Human Resource and Administrative  Officer.

She brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously worked with Save the Children Kenya and Madagascar as programme Support services Officer, Roving Human Resource and administrative Assistant working with donors such as ECHO,UNICEF,BHA and USAID. Winnie has also worked as Human Resource Assistant at Gertrude's children’s Hospital.

She holds a BA in Film technology and Theatre Arts from Kenyatta University and a Diploma in Human Resource Management. She is an associate member of IHRM.

Before joining MWA, he was a Senior Analyst at EED Advisory Limited, where he was involved in different assignments for the World Bank, AFD, GIZ, UNICEF, Siemen Stiftung, and CLASP, among others. Prior to joining EED, he worked as a Data Analyst at Adaptive Management and Research Consultancy (AMREC)-Kisumu.

Festus is well versed in using advanced statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, R, Python, PowerBI and Tableau. He is also well versed in coding and analysing qualitative data using NVIVO, RQDA, and Atlas. Festus holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Kibabii University (Kenya).
