Amazi Water Joins Millennium Water Alliance

September 24, 2025, Washington, DC / Nairobi, Kenya – The Millennium Water Alliance Board of Directors welcomes Amazi Water as our 27th member organization, joining six other organizations that have become MWA members this year alone.

Amazi Water’s uniqueness is its sole focus on the country of Burundi, with the goal of achieving 100% water service coverage in the country. To date it has installed more than 1,100 water systems in Burundi with a target of an additional 1,800 systems. Amazi Water also joins MWA with an interest in joining our collective efforts to leverage and scale climate finance through carbon credits to accelerate and sustain water service delivery.

Amazi Water expects to contribute valuable learning from implementing water and sanitation programs in fragile settings to other MWA members, particularly related to community engagement, solar water systems, and public-private partnerships. In return, Amazi Water seeks to gain fellowship with mission-aligned organizations, opportunities for technical and strategic collaboration, and shared resources that help them achieve their vision of nationwide water access in Burundi by 2030.

MWA’s CEO Keith Wright remarked that, “Amazi Water brings to MWA a strong track record of focus and scale in delivering safe water services. Their particular model makes them an ideal addition to MWA’s growing model of scaling climate finance through member projects to finance, build, and sustain safe water systems.”

MWA, founded in 2012, is one of the world’s leading collaborations in the water security sector, supporting its members through collective programming, shared learning, convening on best practices and technology, and advocacy to governments and other stakeholders for greater investment in global water security, sanitation, and hygiene. MWA’s member organizations work in more than 100 countries to bring safe drinking water, better sanitation, and improved hygiene practices to more than 50 million people every year.
