Millennium Water Alliance Learning Event – Building Financial Sustainability: Scaling Innovative Microfinance Models in Kenya Webinar

We are excited to invite you to our upcoming webinar, “Building Financial Sustainability: Scaling Innovative Microfinance Models in Kenya.” This event is designed to highlight the role of microfinancing in supporting small-scale irrigation and improving agricultural productivity. We will be specifically discussing the Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGO) model developed by one of MWA’s corporate partners for the market entry for the market entry of solar-powered irrigation pumps, the benefits and challenges of this model, and how it can be scaled and replicated in similar contexts. To read more about the PAYGO model and a case study of its implementation, please click here.

This event will include an overview of sustainable finance models in Kenya and a panel discussion with key experts followed by a Q&A. Participants can expect to learn about sustainable financing models, considerations for scaling, and lessons learned.  While focused on practical learnings in Kenya this model has broad applicability in leveraging private sector investment alongside non-profit de-risking and market intelligence.

  1. The Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGO) model provides a sustainable way for smallholder farmers to access and maintain solar irrigation technology.
  2. Connectivity and market access are critical challenges that need to be addressed for successful implementation of the (PAYGO) model.
  3. Development partners should focus on facilitating private sector development and supporting holistic value chain services.
  4. Lastly, financial innovations and customer-centric approaches are essential for scaling the PAYGO model effectively.
