May 21, 2026, Washington, DC / Nairobi, Kenya – The Board of Directors of the Millennium Water Alliance is delighted to announce our new Board Chair: Ambassador John Simon.
Ambassador Simon brings a unique set of experiences, skills, and networks that is an excellent fit for MWA’s next chapter.
Ambassador Simon’s experience includes service on the National Security Council in the White House, USAID, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, and in recent years as the Managing Partner of Total Impact Capital which has been involved setting up water financing vehicles, such as Azure Source Capital, the Franchise Impact Solutions Facility, and the Virridy Water Carbon Credit Facility.
Ambassador Simon has spent his career at the intersection of international development and innovative finance which is a key current area of focus for our sector. This dual perspective will enable Ambassador Simon to help MWA navigate the complexities of public-private partnerships and strategic advocacy, both of which are critical to MWA’s mission of accelerating water security solutions.
Ambassador Simon expressed that, “I have long admired MWA’s collaborative model and believe my background in finance and governance can help strengthen the organization’s strategic direction and financial sustainability. In particular, I will help expand MWA’s networks and visibility at this critical moment of change in international development.”
As Ambassador Simon steps into this new role, we also express our gratitude to our outgoing chair, Sam Mwale, for his three years of skilled service.
