November 17, 2025, Washington, DC / Nairobi, Kenya – Impact Water Foundation has been approved by the Millennium Water Alliance Board of Directors as our 28th member organization, joining other leading implementing and research organizations that work in global water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Impact Water delivers point-of-use water treatment systems and safe water education to schools at scale across Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda. The organization has installed and maintained treatment systems in over 60,000 schools, ensuring 24 million students have access to safe drinking water. Impact Water’s model demonstrates that universal safe drinking water coverage in schools is both achievable and affordable at less than $0.25 per student annually.
Impact Water brings to MWA a decade of operational experience scaling school-based safe water programming and leveraging carbon finance to accelerate the delivery of safe water solutions.
“Joining the Millennium Water Alliance comes at a pivotal moment for Impact Water,” said Mark Huelsenbeck, CEO of Impact Water. “As we transition from demonstrating what’s possible at scale to building the partnerships necessary for universal coverage of safe drinking water in schools across our three operating countries and beyond, MWA’s network offers invaluable opportunities for collaboration and learning. We’re eager to contribute lessons learned from scaling and our carbon finance expertise, while benefiting from the collective knowledge of other member organizations.”
MWA’s CEO Keith Wright said, “Impact Water adds great value to the collective skillset of the Alliance through their proven success with climate finance programming, scaled water treatment solutions, and monitoring and data systems. We are excited about Impact Water’s contribution to MWA’s vision of a world where every community and their ecosystems are water secure. We also welcome Impact Water’s CEO, Mark Huelsenbeck, to MWA’s board of directors and look forward to his contributions to MWA’s governance and direction.”
