FHK IMPROVED WATER SUPPLY IN HOSPITALS

Posted Feb 12, 2014

Laisamis hospital is located 2 km from Laisamis town towards Marsabit headquarters, Marsabit town.
The hospital was developed through the economic stimulus program and is now the only GOK referral hospital in Laisamis Sub county.
As efforts to improve its service delivery intensified over the last year, various partners with programs in Laisamis including F.H Kenya were approached for infrastructure development.
During the FH Kenya and the hospital management consultative discussions on what support could be offered,it was noted that the hospital had only one 10,000 liter plastic tank for water storage.
This is how FH Kenya moved in to support the construction of one 25 cubic meter masonary tank through the USAID funded KALDRR WASH Program.
The tank is already operational and serving the intended purpose since it has been connected to the pipeline that was laid by the Ministry of Water last year.
The additional water storage will be handy in meeting the additional water demands at the hospital with the putting up of a maternity wing that is almost completed.
The improved water storage as a result of the additional tank is only part of the value addition that FH Kenya is aiming to achieve in 26 other health facilities in both Marsabit and Isiolo Counties
This is expected to contribute to the realization of one of three KALDRR WASH program objectives of Improving Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Conditions in Health facilities and emergency response centers.
